Nothing (H)air 1
Unofficial Product Line Extension for Nothing Technology LTD
The goal of this project was to extend the product line of an existing brand, creating a product unlike anything they have released.
I chose Nothing, a new at the time tech company known for bold design choices and competitive pricing.
To begin with, I sketched and annotated the base product. I analyzed the design language, colors, and materials to gain an understanding of the “Nothing” brand identity.
The hairdryer design went through several stages of refinement with several prototypes of varying fidelity.
After testing, the hairdryer was 3d modeled and rendered. This was the end of the project until version two.
Version two is a total overhaul of the (H)air 1 design. Reflecting on version one, I felt that I could make significant improvements. In addition to all of the ways my technical and design skills had improved since the first version, Nothing company had also released many more products in the meantime. These gave me a better idea of the overall brand aesthetic/ design language.
In this version, I wanted to emphasize high quality, curvature continuous surfaces, a much more ergonomic handle, and my integration of the Nothing "glyph" feature. The hairdryer itself is fully ambidextrous and utilizes a centrifugal fan setup to pull air through the rear intake, cooling the battery before flowing through the front heating element.
