Kubey Barracuda and Pike
Production Folding Knives
These two designs are being manufactured at scale and sold to the public.
From the beginning of this project, I set out to create a pair of pocket knives that were as easy to carry (thin, light), ergonomic, and functional as possible. Each model features a unique blade shape that are optimized for specific, common cutting tasks.
Neutral handle shapes with rounded ends allow use across all hand sizes
Iterative ergonomic testing across various hand sizes (3D printed prototypes)
Generous chamfering on handle edges improve comfort during extended use
Increased access to locking mechanism with scallops and scale clearance
Pocket clips carefully placed for comfort in any grip position
Clips allow for deep pocket carry
Clip ramps optimized for easy pocketing and sufficient pocket retention
Pike model features milled texture for improved grip
Low blade tips for easy draw cuts (common for many users)
Fine ribbed texture (jimping) on flipper tabs and blade spines for ease of opening and grip in use
Liner lock mechanisms instead of frame locks for reliable detent (no unwanted lockbar pressure)
Sleek, slim carry profiles for minimal pocket space usage
Minimal visible hardware for sterile look
Extensive lightening pockets milled into the titanium handle
Front flipper opening mechanisms chosen for convenience (no intrusions into cutting path, unobtrusive in the pocket)
Tabs optimized to easily break a strong detent for reliable deployment
Handle tops sloped for tab clearance and comfortable flipping
